Cougar's Story

Facing certain death due to injury and illness from her short life filled with neglect, a small, rescued blind cat has instead become a symbol of hope and inspiration since she opened her heart to two orphaned kittens, and proves that love, although it comes inmany forms...in her case, it certainly is not blind.

Cougar when first seenWhen Cougar was picked up by Lane County Animal Services in January 2009, she had one eye, was malnourished and, although pregnant, weighed only 5 pounds.  She was on track to be euthanized, but Dr. Sally Conklin-Cugini fell in love and went the extra mile.  Working with West Coast Dog and Cat Rescue and thanks to donated veterinary services, she was seen by an eye specialist.  Although it was determined that her "good eye" would have to be removed, many volunteers were involved in getting her to OSU
for eye surgery where her spay was also done.

After recovering in a foster home, she joined the adoptable cats in the PetSmart cat room in Eugene, where she adjusted remarkably well.  "Fearless" is the word many volunteers applied to her.  Still, no one seemed interested in adopting her.

Then she met The Kids.
